Your brain, just like any part of your body, definitely gets benefits by "working it out". The more you use it, the better it will become. So here we'd like to talk about some simple brain exercises to improve memory that you can use every day to help boost your brain power.
The most common brain exercises to improve memory are called "neurobics." Neurobics are basically mental tasks and activities that you can do every day that will help stimulate your brain. If you have the same routine every day, you're not challenging your brain which makes it difficult to maintain good memory.
Here are some simple neurobic brain exercises to improve memory:
Driving:
If you commute to work there are actually two things you can do that will challenge your brain. First, try taking a different route. Even if one way is faster than the other you can always leave a little bit earlier. By doing this, your brain can't expect how long you will have to wait at an intersection, or how busy the road will be on any given day.
In addition, try not to park in the same parking spot every day. This is probably difficult for people who work at a place with assigned parking, but if you don't, and you're an early bird, chances are you probably pick the same space over and over again. Try parking in different spots every day so that your brain doesn't go into "routine" mode and become bored with you.
Brushing Your Teeth:
When you brush your teeth in the morning, try using your non-dominant hand. So if you're right handed, try brushing your teeth with your left hand. This can be difficult to do, but the more you practise the better you will become. But again, don't just solely brush with your non-dominant hand from now on. If you're a twice a day brusher, brush with your left hand in the morning, and then switch to your right before bed time.
Use Other Senses:
Especially touch. A lot of people do this all ready when they are in the shower searching for a shampoo bottle while their eyes are closed. If not, try it out. This is a good one to help you try and visualize where you are by relying on sense alone.
Another exercise to do is to unlock the doors of your house when coming home using only touch. Get to your door, close your eyes and try and find the keyhole without actually looking at it. You'd be surprised how difficult this can be at first, but amazed at how quickly you become better at it.
By following these brain exercises to improve memory power you not only create new neural connections, but also strengthen older ones by constantly challenging them.
